Calculators are a resource most people use everyday. This tool continues to be updated with newer versions and better technology. In the state of Texas, all eight grade students can use a calculator on their state assessment. Using a calculator helps lower performing students succeed and show growth on their state assessment. Our current calculators are out of date and need to be replaced with the newest version of the TI-84 calculator. Our current calculators were hand-me-downs from the high school and have been in use for more than ten years. Some of the buttons have rubbed off and are no longer legible. My students have a difficult time understanding which buttons to use because they cannot read them anymore. Our current calculators are old and need to be retired. This newest version of the calculator will help my special education, 504, and English Language Learners become more successful in their math class. With the new calculators, my students will be able to manipulate numbers easier because many of the functions have been simplified. The new calculators have the latest operating system available on TI calculators. The new calculators are rechargeable, so we will no longer need to purchase batteries.
