Many of my students look forward to what's for lunch on the school's menu, as well as what PE game we will play each day. Keeping students physically active is important in developing healthy living routines, and to prevent increased risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, and obesity. Students who are physically active tend to have improved cognitive performance (concentration and memory). Their behavior in the classroom improves, allowing for students to be able to focus better, being on-task, and having improved grades. One of my goals to get students more physically and actively involved in physical education is to have the sufficient PE equipment needed to play fun games and get students moving. Some of the games I look forward to introducing my students to include "Immunity Kickball" in which everyone gets a turn every time. "Double Kickball," is twice as fun as kickball-the team that is up forms two lines, two balls are kicked, and 2-3 players on the same bases at the same time. In"Triple Crown Baseball," the batter takes a nerf football, nerf baseball, and a kickball out of a box and kicks them all out in into the field, runs the bases, while the defense returns all three balls back to the box. In "Obstacle Relay," students will use jump ropes, hula hoops, and small basketballs that will support coordination skills. "Slider" is a less violent dodgeball game with beanbags and practice with Frisbee flicks, underhand throwing and cardio activity. "Frisbee Softball" is also a variation of kickball.
