This project has been on my mind since last year but I never got around to submitting a request because I was too shy and tried to do this on my own. I have heard amazing stories about DonorsChoose and finally sat down to share my story. I currently have 27 1st graders in my classroom and they are eager to learn every day. Aside from our Smartboard, we only see the sight of tablets 1 day a week. My students love when it is "tablet day"; some even look forward to it more than any other special. Now, I know what you are thinking and I may have some of your same thoughts: "We need children off the tablets, the ipads, the iphones, the computer and they need to learn the concept of 0-U-T-S-I-D-E, or anything else besides 'screen time'".Listen, I hear you and I totally support that...to an extent. The person reading this is a completely different learner than the person typing this paragraph. You may learn through listening, I learn through visuals. You may respond better to tests while I have anxiety once I write my name on an exam. With that being said, we all learn differently. These tablets open opportunities to students who learn better visually and through auditory sounds. This may open doors for my few students who are learning how to speak English because the way I speak may not connect the dots. Due to the nature of today's children, technology is a resource to help them learn. These tablets will act as multiple learning centers in my classroom that will engage my students to reach goals and accomplish them. They will also bring opportunities to students who are unable to access technology at home.
