Imagine coming to school from a weekend of having very little or no food in your home. You are hungry and unable to focus upon learning because all you can think about is how your stomach won't stop rumbling or cramping, or how you have a headache because you haven't eaten all weekend. Our school has initiated a weekend food backpack program for our students in need and have started a food pantry but we are in desperate need of a refrigerator. What we have come to realize is that we are only able to send home "dry goods" and not the fresh fruits, vegetable, meats, and frozen food items that would be beneficial to the students because we do not have a refrigeration system in our food pantry. With a refrigerator, we would be able to purchase, store, and provide these very beneficial food items for students so they will no longer have to struggle through the weekend without food and will be able to help level the playing field for their mental, physical and academic success.
