My students are passionate and enthusiastic readers! They know the value of literacy and treasure any time they have to disappear into a good book. However, there are students in my classroom who have to look through too many bookshelves before they see themselves represented in literature. Too many students who don't have positive role models in their favorite texts. As the new school year begins, I want to make sure that every student in my class can head to our classroom library to find a character who looks like them, speaks their language, eats their food, wears their clothes, and has a similar family makeup to theirs. I am proud to embrace cultural, physical, gender, and socioeconomic diversity in my classroom. Your donation to this project will ensure that all of my students know that they are welcome and valued in our classroom community.
