I currently started off this school year with no classroom carpet in my classroom for my students to use during mini-lessons and group community meetings. Being 4th graders, it is already difficult for them to sit on the floor, so a carpet would make it a bit easier for them. In the end I hope they will feel more comfortable and focused and less worried about how uncomfortable it is to sit on the floor. Our first lesson of the year, talks about diversity and how diversity impacts all communities; this carpet will allow my students to see people of diverse backgrounds and understand that they make up part of that great, world community.
