The laptops requested supports the integration of Technology in existing contents of study across all subject areas. These laptop will benefit whole group instruction as well as individual and small group explorations and research.
Our third grade focus on Reading and Inquiry skills and with limited computers in our school, the laptops will help students inquire and support learning of existing common core curriculum Reading Standards such as conducting short research that build knowledge on a topic through global and cultural context using kid friendly sites.
Also, getting the laptops will allow for differentiation of instruction by matching each child’s literacy needs with appropriate learning experiences. One of my school's goal is integrating technology to focus on specific skills or to strengthen and challenge students’ learning. We use programs that are technology based and due to lack of laptops in my class, students constantly have to wait their turn to use the one desk top computer. Helping us purchase these laptops will help lessen this problem by providing additional resource for the class. It also provides colorful and interactive programs, learning stations and sites that lead to student engagement.
According to Jerry Blumengarten, using technology can be motivational for reluctant learners.
“Technology gives the quiet student a voice”
“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teachers hands, because it is the pen and paper of our time and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world”, David Warlick.
Lastly, a classroom which has no borders allows learning that has no boundaries. These laptops will peak students’ curiosities, engage their interests and foster love of learning for each year’s third graders for years to come.
