Kids need flexibility and comfort if you want them to engage in the learning process. It’s important that they are given the opportunity to have flexible seating options, so they can have the freedom to work in a space they find inviting. I find it challenging to sit in one place for an extended period of time, so I cannot imagine forcing my kiddos to sit at their desks for hours on end and expect them to be happy about learning. I want them to feel at home when they are in the classroom, and that involves creating soft comfortable spaces where they can choose to sit away from the cold hard chair and desk! I believe when a space is inviting we are drawn to it, and I want my students to have the freedom to work and learn in a space they find comfortable. Happy kids are productive kids! No one finds a cold, hard floor inviting, but soft cushions and flexible floor chairs will surely make the learning experience one they will want to come back to again and again. Please help my students make the great escape from their desk, one they can really sink into!
