While Eduardo Galeano is well known for his adamant scholarship, relentless research, and deep knowledge of the human condition, he is also known for his very accessible style of writing: direct and short chapters and vignettes. It is his style that makes his work accessible, and reading it enjoyable for my young students. I have tried a couple of chapters from the book, and students have been able to find insights, beyond the evident treatise of soccer; all while getting a few kicks out of it (pun intended). Let us embrace our students dream of becoming professional athletes, while helping them work on a plan B. If my students leave middle school equipped with the joy of reading, their chances of succeeding in their academic endeavors should be much greater. Particularly in our times of 240 characters.
