My students inspired me to create this donors choose project due to our Reader's Choice Unit we wrapped up a couple weeks ago. I set a goal for each of them to read 60,000 words in two weeks. Which added up to a little over 7,000,000 words total between my 4 classes. They crushed through that goal and ended up reading 16,000,000 words in two weeks. For those other none math majors, that is 9,000,000 more than I had hoped for.
Over the years I have gone to every book sale I can manage and dug through some garage sale boxes looking for some good novels to add to my classroom library. Hundreds of my own dollars have gone into this project of creating my classroom library and many have donated out of the goodness of their heart.
So for this Donors Choose Project, I have asked my students to give me a list of the books they want to see me add to my library. Many of them are the ones they discovered their friends reading during our unit. So now I want to be able to bring in a whole new set of novels for the last few months of school. Please consider giving my students the power of a good novel. In 60,000 words they can discover and learn so much that I cannot teach them.
