Performing on instruments is one of the most exciting parts of music class for the majority of students, as most students may only have this opportunity at school. Generally, students have first learned a piece of music through singing, movement or body percussion before they move to instruments. The ability to take what they've learned and transferred it to instruments is fun, engaging, and memorable. Having a variety of high-quality instruments in my classroom is essential for the creative process. Students will use these percussion instruments to create their own songs in small groups and to embellish songs they are moving and singing to. Each song is shaped by the students to create a product that is completely their own. When students finish a song, they perform it in class for their peers, at school assemblies, and/or at the winter or spring concert. New instruments will enhance the learning experience for all my students, and allow them to see a world of new possibilities when arranging and composing in class.
