My students use the maker space to gain experience working with tools that they will potentially use in jobs or hobbies once they leave high school. We will use these tools build theatrical sets and to partner with local businesses to build benches, adirondack chairs, and more as part of community service and internships. Students will use the impact drivers to create larger projects that require more heavy duty equipment. The plunge saw and rail will allow us to cut large pieces of wood in our small space without worrying about using a dangerous table saw. We focus on project based learning in my class; students choose the direction of their learning. Students access the knowledge of wood working under the umbrella of theatrical design, but they bring their own project ideas.
