My students will be able to use these various items to help strengthen their fine and gross motor skills. These items will be used to work on their hand strength, visual/motor skills and writing skills. In order to help support their goals, addressing some more of the root sensory needs will be important for students to be able to make progress on their goals. A lot of these sensory items will help increase participation and behavior in their general education classrooms. The tools I have selected will help meet the various needs of students that I support in their academic and sensory needs to have them continue to grow even more! I get the unique opportunity to be the only occupational therapist working to support students across 4 schools ranging from grades Pre-K-8th. Sensory Play items while supporting fine motor goals for upper and lowercase letters to form them with a top down and left to right approach. Kinetic sand, art trays will have shaving cream, dot art markers to paint, animal finger crayons, glue to make slime, magnetic upper and lower case letters to hide inside sensory bins. These items will help make sensory bins to have students sensory needs met while making it fun to learn how to write letters, numbers and sentences. Weighted equipment such as lap pad, wobble cushions will help students with proprioceptive input in their general education classrooms to increase focus while staying seated and completing classroom work. The led pencils, pencil grasps will help support maintaining a tripod grasp and with increased pencil pressure.
