Many of my students are non-verbal due to their physical and medical disabilities. But that doesn't mean that they don't have a lot to say! These kids want to learn, they want to share and they want to shine! These switches and device will give my students the voices that they need to be heard. It will allow my students to answer questions in both small and large groups. One way that this can be done is during circle time the students like to participate by telling what the day of the week is, and these switches will allow us to record the day of the week, the student can then access the device and they will then have the verbal output so that everyone will be able to hear them. They could also activate a switch to repeat part of a song; to say good morning; or to say what number comes next. These assistive technology devices will also allow the students to be social with one another. They can use switches for social greetings with one another; to tell a friend it's their turn; or to choose what activity they want to do together during recess. Switches will be used to answer questions such as how are you today, or would you like milk or juice with lunch? These devices are easily recorded in just a few seconds which make them very versatile and helpful to use in the classroom at a moments notice. The dividers will allow us to split up the classroom into more private and quiet sections that will help students stay focused and be more successful while learning to use devices.
