With new books and resources, my students will build on their prior knowledge and make deeper connections to the humane education curriculum! Fictional stories including "A Greyhound, A Groundhog" will be used for whole group read-alouds that reinforce ELA standards. Non-fictional titles including "The Dog Encyclopedia" will be used for learning facts, viewing images, and completing extension activities like independent projects. Books like, "How to Speak Cat" will be used to teach students about body language and emotions. With the addition of a leash and collar, our plush dog will transform into a pretend pet. Then, we'll work in partners to role-play the steps for safe greetings with new dogs. Using the clickers with target, students will build confidence as they practice giving basic commands to visiting therapy animals.
