As my students transition from elementary to middle-high school, we (their team of teachers) have decided to make "KINDNESS" our mantra this year. To this end, I have decided to begin the school year with the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio. I believe the message in this book will resonate with our students as we strive to not only improve them academically, but help turn them into kind human beings, and productive citizens. We are requesting 21 copies of Wonder with a movie tie-in edition as well. Reading this book, discussing its concepts (and perhaps comparing it to the movie afterwards) will give my students an opportunity to reflect upon how we treat people in this world and the importance of being kind to one another, as well as ourselves.
