The AP U.S. Government and Politics curriculum requires students to discuss and have a deep understanding of our Constitution, the branches of government, political ideology and participation, and public policy. In order to have in depth policy discussions in class, my students need access to current events articles. With 50% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch, access to political magazines is not possible for all students. News magazines like The Week, Weekly Standard, National Review, and The Atlantic will provide my students with articles from both liberal and conservative journalists. The supplies I requested would allow students to read current events articles and use materials such as large sticky notes and markers to outline their notes and share with the group. I believe the magazines and supplies will bring current events to center stage in my classroom.
