My students are eager, enthusiastic, first graders. Two-thirds of them are currently reading below grade level. They enjoy listening to stories, read by the teacher, but need other opportunities to listen to stories and view print materials. The children attend an inner city charter school. It has many good qualities, but lacks some of the resources needed for students to have a variety of quality educational experiences. The school recently invested thousands of dollars in a new reading curriculum, but lack CD players for the anthologies. It was suggested that we, teachers go out and buy our own CD players. Our salary does not allow us to purchase expensive educational materials. We need help!
