Reading aloud is one of the most important ways I can influence and inspire my students to become readers. First grade students love to listen to stories read to them. Six year old students are quick to laugh and empathize with stories told to them. Students deserve to see pictures and hear stories about people who come from diverse cultures and families. Stories of struggle and triumph are ones we can all connect and benefit from. The book list is filled with stories that will be in the classroom library for students to read and listen to during story time. Children deserve books that feature people of color.
