I work with special needs preschool children. Their ages range from 2 1/2 to 5 years of age. They may have been diagnosed with a severe disability to a moderate disability. They attend an elementary school and are the only preschool in the building. Our classroom has been designed for preschoolers but outside our doors they are exposed to the elementary world. The library books that are available to them have been donated by families. They are torn, written in and are not the early childhood classics written by Eric Carle or Audrey Wood. We also participate in a reading group(Book Buddies) with 3rd grade students. The library does not offer books for them to check out to read to our children. Our books are not stored on the library shelves, they are kept in a special area under the counter.
