I teach at an urban middle school where 100% of our students are either Latino (70%) or African American (30%). The only non-Latino, non-African American people students interact with are the teachers and staff at our school. It has been this way for them in elementary school and will continue to be the same way for them in high school. The majority of my students do not travel too far outside of their community and as a result, they know so little of other races, cultures, and places.
