The students will be using the novels to read and explore southern Indian culture and see through the eyes of a woman who is treated differently. This will allow them not only to explore but to better understand the hardships/ lifestyles of women in India. This specific novel will also explain different cultural ideas such as the caste system in India and why women are treated so differently then compared to now. Having the actual novel in hand will help reinforce how important physical texts are in our schools. These novels will also be used in other classes as I continue to teach.
