These are the books needed to teach reading strategies, comprehension and what good readers do. These are amazing stories and create engagement right away with our scholars. We are beginning a new year with a new curriculum, Wit and Wisdom. We will be following a close read model in which we read the same text many times doing something different each time. With these books, my scholars will be able to read along with me, rather than follow along on a YouTube video creating more engaged learning. In addition to engaged scholars, it will be easier to go to the parts in which we need to look again rather than rewinding a video. I strive to model behaviors good readers have which a video does not nor does it make a connection with my students as I can when I am reading.
