In our classroom, we learn about favorite children's authors and take 'book adventures' when I read aloud to students. They sit on a carpeted floor which is on a concrete base--not comfortable really. Also, students often work in buddy pairs around the room side by side helping each other read and write. Having a soft area rug will make our shared reading activities more enjoyable for the students. Having the soft, round cushions will allow buddy pairs to sit comfortably anywhere in the room. I know that I focus better when I am comfortable and I believe the students will as well. After all, our classroom is a 'home away from home' after all.
