I am a head teacher in a 12:1 self-contained classroom for students with diverse special needs, and each child's needs are unique and challenging. Part of the challenge for most of my children includes finding a comfortable way to sit during lessons for several minutes at a time. My kids have EXTREMELY wiggly bodies & difficulty sitting on hard classroom chairs or directly on the community carpet. That's why a bench will be useful in our classroom, especially for students who would benefit from core-strengthening. More bodies can sit closer to the board & it can double as a storage space for classroom materials. Likewise, comfy floor seats can help offer support to students who need a change of scenery--away from their desks.
Seating in the classroom should be as different as the children who fill those seats.
Each child has different and special needs, so different and special seating is a must for us! My children enjoy sitting on the carpet but struggle to sit upright independently. Their constant switches from seats with backs to spots on the carpet interrupt their ability to learn and my ability to teach effectively. Please help us to get the seating we need!
