In order to teach my students how to read I will be creating magnetic letter boards. Each student will have a magnetic letter board to manipulate. We will use our new boards for both reading and spelling. Research shows that learning pathways are opened in the brain when students use multi-sensory learning methods. We will use our new magnetic letter boards to make connections between sounds and the letters that represent those sounds. We will then work on building one syllable words. As the students progress we will begin to use the small magnetic boards to build and break apart multi-syllable words. I have created my first few magnetic boards and letters to share with my students, but they are excited to each have their own letter set!
