My students live for the opportunity to participate in their favorite after~school club: Polynesian/Samoan Dance. This club allows the students to build friendships, knowledge of what is, for some, a new culture and community. This incredible program is open to the entire student population and is taught by some amazing local high school students who have volunteered their time for the past 3 years. From the beginning, we have borrowed our ‘dance skirts’, known as an ‘ie, to wear for practices and performances. We now only have enough costumes available to borrow for a small percentage of the kids. Purchasing fabric, lei’s, and tee shirts will allow all of our students the opportunity to wear a costume. This will give our students the chance to experience a new culture by sharing their love of dance with their families and school at a community performance. This will enhance our community environment and reflect the multi-cultural spirit of our school!
