This year I am integrating graphic novels into my lessons. Some students have troubles visualizing what goes on in a novel, so I have created lesson plans to help them develop their analytical abilities. With this class set of graphic novels, they will be able to see an up close view of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. They will be able to see the parts that the news may not have covered during that time. The graphic novel itself gets into the personal lives of survivors during Katrina, and the author himself even drew images of people who were actually photographed during Katrina. By the end of this project, I will want my students to be able to analyze the chosen graphic novels and develop understandings of the meanings and lessons behind them. Thank you for any donations.
