Independent learning centers are a part of our daily schedule in my kindergarten classroom. As the only teacher in the room, organizing and running centers with 15 minute rotations, for up to 26 students, all at different academic levels, can be challenging. Having this shelving unit and the ability to color code and organize their learning centers by level, my students will be able to independently access the materials they need to be successful in their learning. Organizing centers this way will allow my kindergarten students to choose different learning activities based on their color coded level. By having these choices in their learning , my students will be more engaged in their work, increasing their retention of the information they are learning. Having my students engaged in their work will also allow more time for me to pull and work with small groups of students without the interruption of timed rotations. I am excited to see the growth my students will make with the use of these independent learning centers that are specifically organized and designed for their learning needs.
