By having a classroom set of "Dear Martin" by Nic Stone, my students will be able to read a book that is relevant to their lives, as well as society. Establishing a culture of reading in my classroom is necessary. This classroom set is different, more diverse, than other sets we have already. "Dear Martin" will open up students' thinking and new opportunities of conversation. I want them to think about how the words on the page reflect what happens in society time and time again. I want them to use the book to learn about each other and about themselves. This book will create a stronger sense of community for the classroom due to the conversations they create. My students' learning will be enhanced through the reading of this book in more ways than one, which excites me to no end.
