There is not a single path of learning that works for all students. Through understanding the needs of my students as individual learners in the classroom, I can plan accordingly so that the content is available for students in different mediums and presented at various paces. Through the use of iPads, students will be able to access a variety of literacy supports that meet them where they are at as literacy learners.
Additionally, with the use of text-to-speech technology, students will be able to access various fiction and non-fiction texts that they might not otherwise have access to, which will create the opportunity for our classroom community to engage in collaborative conversations about texts and enjoy book clubs in groups.
If we were given iPads and headphones, we would use apps such as epic books, National Geographic and Reading A-Z for guided reading instruction as well as during individual reading and text exploration. Students would be able to access texts individually during independent reading stations, without feeling reliant on an adult to help coach them through the challenging reading process, which would give them a sense of independence and increased confidence. This new modality of learning in our classroom would help to motivate my energized learners and help foster their growing love of literacy.
