Games like chess and sudoku are often lauded for their effectiveness at promoting memory retention, enhanced focus, and increasing logic and reasoning skills in adults. Therefore, there is no reason the same cannot be applied to elementary students, particularly in math courses! My students struggle with reading comprehension and often struggle to solve multi-step word problems. I hope to purchase some math and science based logic games to supplement instruction and help increase their scores on their NWEA assessments. Students will use these games in groups during math centers to encourage strategic thinking, teamwork, and increase their overall love of learning!
