These materials will provide my students with exposure to well-written, relevant, and credible information regarding current events. Hesitant readers are often hesitant to pick up a book. The length and lack of graphics often turn them away. Magazines are less intimidating and I’ve found that students engage with the material on a deeper level. During our “choice reading” time, students often pull the few magazines I have before checking out the book titles. Additionally, students often turn to social media to stay abreast of current events. They haven’t developed the skills to separate fake news from credible information. This project will help ensure they have access to factual information concerning the world around them.
