The books that I am requesting will allow my students of diverse backgrounds to have a diverse group of books to choose from in our class library. These books, read individual or as a group are written by a diverse group of authors addressing challenging subjects that my students encounter on a daily basis. As research supports, the more we evaluate our own reading and the more we read, the better we get at it. In our school, we provide our students with daily opportunities for independent reading in hopes for all of our students to reach the goal of two hours a week of independent reading. I would love the opportunity to create the beginnings of our classroom library to give my students choices in their reading.
