I have the pleasure to teach a group of 31 energetic students who are eager to learn. My school is a Title 1 school with 76% of students receiving reduced price or free breakfast and lunch. My students come from a variety of cultures and speak several different languages. Many of my students come from a very low socioeconomic household and are not able to have the rich experiences that some have. I am fortunate to have several students who are entering a classroom environment for the first time. Being that they are 5 and 6 years old, we have to start with the basics. How to sit and work on building up stamina. They need to learn how to share space in classroom areas. They will also need to learn how to have meaningful conversations and be able to explore concepts in all areas. As we enter the age of Common Core standards, it is even more essential that my students have the tools they need to help them learn and be successful.
