The materials for this project will be used in the the K-5 math classes in our entire district. Math interventionist in our district will house the items and use them for the Tier 2-3 students in Math, as well as using them as examples for regular education math classrooms. The materials I chose were math games that can be played in groups, as a whole class, or solo. Games such as "24", "Super Genius", "Proof", "Adsumudi" and "No Thanks" are a few of them. All of these game not only help build the 8 effective mathematical teaching practices, but do so in a way that is non-threatening and engaging for the students. Many times, students respond more strongly mathematically to games rather than pencil and paper abstract problems. As a 20+ teaching veteran, I have experienced this every year in my classrooms. A student may not "know" 6 +4 = 10 on a piece of paper, but will recognize that two dice with 6 and 4 on it means 10. I plan on training the other teachers in how to use these materials effectively in the classrooms they will be working with. Furthermore, we will be using these materials to complement a game library for students to use the games at home with their families as well.
