The Scholastic Magazines will be used as a Social Studies and Reading tool in the classroom. Students can relate to the topics. The characters and topics use children the same age as our students. They are engaging through pictures and a student-friendly format. This resource is specifically on second grade level which allows students to enjoy reading more independently. This will also provide writing topics and a strong introduction to social studies topics that students will learn more about in the future. There is also a technology piece. The online tool that goes with the magazine ensures the students are comprehending the material. It will open the floor to discussions about what was read and give students a chance to play interactive games relating to the topic. Students will also bring these magazines home and show their families what they are learning about. If they have devices at home, they can continue playing the games at home also. This will make the material more memorable for the students and get families involved. Overall, these materials are extremely useful and relevant to our curriculum. Social Studies does not get enough attention throughout the school day. This will provide us with the resources to incorporate Social Studies in a way that would be enjoyable for students in a short period of time with in the busy school day.
