Flexible seating options such as wobble cushions and balance ball seats are ideal for students with unique learning needs. Students with attention deficit disorder benefit from movement during instruction; these seating options are a way to provide movement opportunities that allow students to keep their bodies busy while their brains concentrate on learning! Students with autism have a wide range of sensory needs and benefit from choosing the style of seat they work best in. These flexible seating options will help create an environment focused on individual learning preferences. Students should be given the choice of their most comfortable position for learning. Do you enjoy sitting in a bar stool, or does it hurt your back after a long period of time? Do you like to stand while you work, or are you most comfortable in a rolling desk chair? Our children have seating preferences, just as we do! It is my goal to provide numerous seating choices for my students so that they are comfortable and ready to learn. I am aware of the individual needs of my students and hope to set up my classroom so that each child has an equal chance of achieving his/her academic and social/behavioral goals.
