The document camera will be used in a variety of ways. Most of all, it will be especially helpful in modeling and thinking aloud during instruction. My students, who have a variety of disabilities, often need to see examples of what is expected modeled on the same paper/same format that they are expected to use. This is not possible without a document camera. So far, I have been making versions of student worksheets and writing paper on chart paper, but the chart paper is not an exact replica of the students' papers. Consequently, students have more difficulty transferring and applying what was modeled on the chart paper to their own independent work. A document camera will allow me to better model and think aloud during explicit instruction, which will support student learning and their success applying taught skills independently. The document camera will also be used to display texts during read alouds and during reading lessons. My students have difficulty processing auditory information, and often need supporting visuals or multi-modal instruction to address their information processing needs. Since I do not have multiple copies (class sets) of books used in reading lessons or read alouds, we need a document camera to display these texts during lessons and read alouds to support student access and engagement. Additionally, the document camera will be used for students to share their work with each other, especially during writing workshop. My students love to share their writing with each other. Exemplary peer writing can be used as a mentor text to show the other students things they can try to replicate in their own writing. My students love to inspire and be inspired by each other. Sharing their writing has also promoted classroom community, my students' self-esteem, and students' confidence in their writing.
