When kids who have experienced trauma are triggered, they can experience very intense feelings like panic, anger, or fear. Often, they don't know how to deal with these big feelings and, as a result, have meltdowns which prevent them from learning. It's not fair to these kids that their education is interrupted because of situations out their control! Luckily, there are many tools that can help kids cope with these big feelings. When kids begin to feel overwhelmed, they can sit and work with a weighted lap pillow which calms their anxiety. When they're unable to focus, they can use a fidget to help or play with sensory toys to regulate themselves. Kids shouldn't lose learning!
