Coding and robotics will make a difference in my students' learning because it lends an opportunity for students to learn in a very hands-on and engaging way. I believe that bringing technology, coding, or robots into classroom experiences gives students many things: higher engagement, problem-solving skills, creative thinking opportunities, and college and career-readiness. When technology is brought into any lesson it opens up new doors...like chances to talk to students about jobs in today's world! I want students to find their passions at school and truly learn how to use technology in new ways. The possibilities are endless when it comes to Ozobot. I can use these in math, literacy, team building, science....and for FUN! I currently have 8 Ozobots and have used them for a research project. Students researched an animal of their choice by reading books. After they gathered research they were given an "Ozobot Map" that I created. On this map they included important information about their animal: habitat, what they eat, and what type of animal they are. The map also had spaces open for Ozobot's code. The students filled out the map and then filled in the code spaces. Ozobot then drove through the map by following the code students' entered. While Ozobot was driving students video taped the Ozobot driving and spoke about their animal. The more Ozobots I get, the more students can become engaged in the types of activities described above. Students can do so much more than gather research and write it down....they can CODE ROBOTS while doing it, so let's give them these opportunities!
