Scholastic News are weekly newsletters that the students will receive in the mail at the school. Each newsletter has a fun and interesting science and social studies topics that are appropriate for their grade level. Each newsletter comes with lessons that are aligned to state and national reading, science and social studies standards. The printed newsletters also come with digital resources such read alouds, videos linked to the reading material, more printable skills sheets, and differentiation tools to make the lessons appropriate for a variety of skill levels. This group has big goals and this would definitely help them achieve it! Jefferson City Public Schools has set a goal to help every child read on or above grade level. The only way that we can achieve this goal is by finding a variety of ways to peak students interest in reading and to provide appropriate text in order to work on close reading. Scholastic News meets all of those needs. Students love them. They have a variety of new topics that students are interested, have appropriate reading levels, and the passages are perfect length for focusing on close reading strategies. These newsletters will help lead us one step closer to our goal of 100% on or above grade level!
