Over my 20 year teaching career I have worked on creating a vast library of reading group book sets. The sets include all types of literature and expose students to historical events, human and animal relationships as well as relatable life experiences. I have also utilized the Story Works magazine to engage students in current events and high interest fiction and non-fiction. Two weeks before the start of the school year, there was an electrical fire in my classroom. I lost every single book and StoryWorks magazine. The new school year has started with empty book shelves. I want my current students to have access to all of the wonderful literature I have grown to love. These book sets and Story Works will allow students to access all types of literature. Reading groups and literature circles promote student discourse and critical thinking skills in addition to developing a strong sense of self and empathy all while creating life long readers.
