In 2nd grade, we introduce strategies to help students work towards reading with deeper comprehension and increased stamina. I love to see the light bulb go off when a student understands a new concept and can use a new technique that they have learned. Most of the time, students are seated at tables but not all students find it easy to sit in their chairs all day. On a daily basis, students are pulled aside to work with the teacher on their reading skills, both one on one or in small groups. My students would like balance ball chairs to use for reading in small groups. This is the perfect change of pace because balance ball chairs engage more muscles than traditional seating which reinvigorates the body resulting in improved focus and posture. Balance ball chairs are also fun and engaging for young learners. Having a creative seating solution helps to refocus student attention to maximize learning.
