The degree of importance that early literacy can make on a child is astounding. Many critical reading concepts begin before kindergarten. The large carpet that was chosen has letters surrounding the outside and a world map in the middle. This will be placed in the front of the room for children gatherings. This will be for large group, story time, and also music and movement. During choice time the children will be able to use the carpet as the block area. The world map in the middle of the carpet will help the children reference different areas and we will talk about buildings around the world. Along with the letters on the carpet the children will enhance their early literacy skills by using all the new games and puzzles. We want to encourage our children to observe the world and to feel a sense of wonder for everything in it. To do this we would like to expand our discovery area in the classroom. We are outside everyday exploring around our building and searching for new artifacts to inspect. The children can use the binoculars outside and the microscope inside to further inspect any new artifacts. Using these new materials will help create wonder and curiosity in the children's minds. They will begin to think critically and ask more questions. This will create deeper and more meaningful conversations throughout the day between the children and their peers but also between the children and the other adults in the room.
