Flexible seating allows students to have controlled choice in their learning environment. In second grade, we will be using Daily 5 to teach reading. Daily 5 is a literacy framework that gives students a sense of independence. It does so through creating a classroom of engaged readers and writers. Teachers get time to meet with small groups of children and meet a diverse range of needs. Due to the increased independence students have during this time, they are often interested in finding a spot around the room to read independently, to a friend, or in a group. It is important that students are comfortable and making the most of this time.
