My students are all special needs and most of them are not yet writing with a pen or pencil. My students need more practice with functional skills and fine motor work. Using pencil and paper to have the students spell their name over and over again is redundant and just plain boring. I want my students to learn through meaningful fun activities all while building their confidence and skills. Please keep reading to find out what a task box is and how it will be implemented in my classroom. These task boxes will be created using a plastic bin with different manipulatives inside that focus on a task to complete. Each task box will be made out of 1 sterilite 6 quart storage box. Inside the box will have different items such as the unifix cubes with a card that is laminited with the Apache lamination sheets. These cards will give specific visual instructions for the student to complete a matching, counting or sorting activity. Another example of a task box would be to place a learning resource sorting muffin tin inside of the sterilite container and place a handful of child raft small counting bears and a pair of the learning resource jumbo tweezers in the box. The students will have to use the tweezers to sort each bear one by one into the muffin tin. These task boxes will provide independent work for the students that is both academic and functional.
