Given the interest the students have had on how the Hurricane affected their surroundings, I would like for them to do a sampling project on a couple of our local ecosystems. The emphasis on this project would be to identify two things; one the sampling of the nearby wetlands to see if the amount of species has changed, and the other to plot data on micro/macro-plastics. A goal of this project is to give students a chance to do real world exploration of our local ecosystem. Students will be given the opportunity to wade through the wetland with the waders, to collect micro-invertebrates for examination with the aquatic D-Nets. Students will use the microscope attachments to get a closer look at what is actually in our wetland, but maybe missed by the naked eye on the folding table.
