This library was designed through student choice (Attack on Titan, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Babysitters Club) and picking books of varied reading levels from categories that students requested like humor and horror and poetry. There is a specific focus on filling the library with stories of students with disabilities with titles like El Deafo and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night and Braced. I hope that some of these books serve as starting points for conversations about disability: What does it mean for the students in my classroom? What does that look like in our society? Do they relate to the characters in the novels? It is my intention to build empathy through these novels, both for themselves and for others. In addition to books, I also included some fidget toys to help with focus and timers to use as a tool during reading.
