My students are from urban low-income communities and have chosen to come to our charter school. Because students are from low-income families, providing essential math class materials such as a calculator and a protractor is challenging. Students should be able to learn how to use these basic tools in math because it would be an injustice to deny them of such access. Our school is diverse and we have many students who are Chicano/Latino and African American. There is also a small population of students who are Asian American/Pacific Islander. Students with different background get a long and work well together.
